Reflexology is an holistic therapy used to promote well~being, relieve stress and its physical manifestations.
Modern, western reflexology techniques were developed in the 1900s, though the therapy itself can be traced back over 5000yrs.
The principle of reflexology is that the feet represent a map of the body, including all the internal organs and body systems.
Alternating pressure over these 'reflex' points, the reflexologist helps the mind, body and spirit regain equilibrium thus inducing a feeling of calm and well~being.
Through this de~stressing process the body is helped to repair and heal itself and promote relaxation. This in turn can improve mood and aid sleep which benefits the entire mind and body.
Although my initial training allowed me to treat pregnant women, as time has progressed Maternity Reflexology has become more specialised. As a qualified midwife I have a continuing interest in the health of women during this very special time in their lives and have recently completed my Maternity Reflexology training to enable me to give an up to date and improved service.
Research has shown that working specific areas of the foot helps to prepare, support and rebalance the mind and body through conception, pregnancy and postnatally, leading to a relaxed and enjoyable maternity experience.
3 recent studies have shown that reflexology in pregnancy can:
Significantly reduce pain during labour (1+3)
Reduce the length of the first stage of labour (1+3)
Improve quality of sleep in post~natal women (2)
